Nov: The AGM at CPIBC was attended by about 30 people. James King, Dave Bartlett and Pam Leahy gave their reports, which were well received.  Thanks were due to all those who had contributed over the year in many and varied ways, not least, you, the players!
James was unanimously re-elected as President for a third year and Paul Schofield was elected Club Captain. The committee was re-elected en masse, with the addition of Peter Foulkes.
Andrew Payne, after his great success with the Whitchurch league decided to step down as Captain for this coming year and Bernard Abate was duly elected his successor, with Matt Philipson taking on the Stan Hardman league.
After the business side of the evening was concluded, James presented the winners and runners-up of the club competitions with their trophies, once again kindly donated by the Paul & Linda, (Dave B's photos here 2015 Photogallery 9), followed by cheese and wine and chat.
Thanks to Margaret & Dick for providing our venue.

End of Sept:  While you've gone indoors for the start of the new season, your Green Team has spent a very busy time getting the grass ready for its Autumn Treatment - the top dressing was delivered on Friday. Don't ask how, but Bernard, Brian, John, Matt, Robin and Ronnie managed to unload 160 bags in about 30 minutes !!!  The green was scarified and spiked. The treatment culminated with brushing, seeding and top dressing on Monday and Tuesday. To see them hard at work click here 2015 Photogallery 8

Soon the Green Team will be lifting and levelling the edge nearest the Club House, a big job and any help would be warmly appreciated. This is just the start of the maintenance which will continue throughout the winter, ensuring that the Green will be in tiptop condition for the 2016 Outdoor Season.

The morning Drawn Pairs final took place between John Blair and Tracy Bird against the husband and wife team of

shots resulting in a very close win to John and Tracy.
Many congratulations to our champions,  thanks to our finalists and all those who took part to ensure a highly
successful day. Long may the tradition of successful days continue.

James and Janet organised a brilliant day, and there was most enjoyable Spoon Drive, which turned a few people on their heads, having to play lead instead of skip, or vice versa! The hog roast was extremely popular with everyone and there was a magnificent spread to accompany it, put on by Club members.  Thanks to James and Janet, it was socially and financially a wonderful day. Well done everyone who came. Photos here...2015 Photo Gallery 3

Congratulations to Linda who beat Cynthia Abraham of Aldershot Underwood in the National Champion of Champions preliminary round. Also, to the Alton Men's ClubTwo Fours who are through to the second round of the Nationals.

Message from the Treasurer: All subs are due NOW!!!!

May 2nd: It was a very close game against Farnham today, with 2 rinks only winning by a single point. However, it was played in a spirit of great friendliness and we look forward to the return match in June. We also beat the weather!

Please note: the Husband and Wife tournament has been put back a week to the 19th July

April 25th: We had an enjoyable game against Alton Social, but lost 2:3 in rinks and by 69:86 points.

It is with deep regret that we learnt yesterday of the death (18th April) of John Allen. He will be sadly missed.

Whitchurch League Please note: Thorneycroft have withdrawn their team from Division 2, so the games scheduled for 29th April and 1st July will now be BYES.

Don't forget - the green opens on Saturday 18th April.

A good time was had by all on Sunday, playing skittles at the Golden Pot. Congratulations to Paul Schofield - winner three years running. Thanks to James & Janet for organising it, Matt for running the competition and all who came and made it a success. *****Congratulations to Linda on reaching the Area Final of the County Unbadged Singles*****
The area Final will be played on a neutral green on Wednesday 6th August, 2pm at Old Basing.
Please come along and support her

Please note - President's Day has been moved to the 10th August

14th July - a very disappointing evening, losing in the Petersfield Cup to Headley by one shot overall. The game appeared to be won after the Fours was completed, with the overall score being 5 in our favour and only the Pairs & Triples to complete their last ends. Unfortunately, the Pairs dropped one shot (despite winning their game) and the Triples dropped a very poor five to draw their rink.

President James and his wife, Janet, wish to express their appreciation for all the hard work and organisation that Sheila and Brian have put into the Club, running the very successful Husband and Wife competition a staggering 21 times.

13th July -  The Husband and Wife tournament was played in lovely sunshine, was enjoyed by competitors and visitors alike, not just the bowling, but the excellent food!! There were 12 participating couples with about half being from other clubs. Linda & Bernard, competing for the first time, and Norma & Brian contested one semi final and the other was between members of the Bourne and Tongham clubs, both of whom were past winners of the tournament The winners, after a gruelling 42 ends, were Brian and Norma Craighill. Well done to them and to everyone who took part.

9th July - Linda continued her winning run and is now in the Area Finals of the County Unbadged Singles competition. She won 21-16, scoring a 2 & 3 on the last two ends to close out the game. Well done Linda and good luck in the Area Final, to be played on 15th August at a neutral venue.

8th July -  Paul, David, Ronnie & Andy won their B&D Fours at Whitchurch by one shot and it was the first time they had been in the lead!! They are now in the semi final, to be played on a neutral green on 29th July, against another Whitchurch Four. Congratulations and good luck in the semi.

6th July - after the last two scheduled friendlies were cancelled due to the opposition not being able to raise a team and one with inclement weather, it was a pleasure to play at Headley even though the match was interrupted by very heavy rain half way through. This did not affect our game in that the shot difference in the second half was almost double that in the first. The end result was a comfortable win on each of 4 rinks and by 81 to 44 shots.

2nd July - the run of Norma & Linda came to an end at Kingsclere where they again met a pair who have played at a very high level. At about the half way stage it appeared to be anybody's game, but the opposition came on strong in the later stages and had the breaks. Norma & Linda both played well and in the County competitions have done themselves and the club proud. Again, congratulations to them. Also, it was great to see so many of the club supporting them for which they expressed their appreciation.

The good news is that Norma & Linda reached the County Area Finals to be played on 2nd July at Kingsclere. Congratulations on beating another England pair, A Flint & S Sharpe of the Cove club. Unfortunately, David Sims & Paul Schofield fell at the same stage in the Men's County Singles, also to Cove players, as did Sheila, Norma & Linda in the Triples, but well done to all for getting so far. The men lost in the Hants. & Berks. Cup, to Whitchurch, drawing the game 52 shots each, but losing the extra end played to decide the winner. Brian & Peter Tarbutt progress to the next round of the B&D Over 60's Pairs by beating a pair from Marnell and we still have a Fours team in the B&D competition.

The draw for the Club Competitions is on the Notice Board or see it here on this website

Please sign up for the Club Competitions (see the notice board or ring Bernard or James). The lists close on the 9th June.

8th to 10th June - Dave Sims & Paul Schofield won their County Singles to now be one game away from the Area Finals, as did Sheila, Norma & Linda in the Triples - congratulations and good luck in the next rounds.

8th June - a really hot afternoon playing a friendly against Colden Common in which we fielded 5 Triples and a Pairs, winning 5-1 rinks and by 97-80 shots. A very pleasant afternoon when Mary Wright, Jamie Payne and Brian Fowler-Wright made their Friendly debuts.

7th June - The Open Day started with thunderstorms, but cleared up before lunchtime to give us a lovely afternoon with other events going on going on in the Public Gardens (Park). We had plenty on the green including many youngsters and we should pick up some new members. We also sold Bob's plants and other bric-a-brac to help towards the mower fund. Many thanks for all those who helped on the day and/or contributed items.

6th June - Linda won her second unbadged singles match. Despite dropping 2 on the first end she only dropped one more in the game, cruising to victory after only 16 ends.

5th June - a wonderful day for Norma and Linda as they progressed to the next round of the County Pairs by creating an upset in beating last year's national champions, Brenda Plumpton & Rosemary Corney of Alton Social, on their green.

4th June - a disappointing night for the men as they were beaten at St Mary Bourne in the Top Club competition 2-3. Again Dave Sims' Fours' team won, as did Paul Schofield in the 4 Wood Singles, but changes in the constitution of the Pairs and Triples did not work.

3rd June - Norma Craighill and Linda Habberfield were picked to play for Hampshire against Middlesex. Congratulations to both.

2nd June - John Blair and Dave Sims narrowly lost their County Pairs game by 22 - 23. Hard Luck!

1st June - we played a friendly away at Alresford and had a glorious sunny Sunday afternoon's bowling, with excellent hospitality and won the match by 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.

31st May - in pleasant weather, we held the first of our two Open Days planned for this season to attract new members. Beforehand, we had distributed over 1000 leaflets to homes and other facilities in the town for which our thanks go to the Craighills, Terri Beech and, in particular, Brian Fowler-Wright, a new member this year, who distributed the most.
The day appeared to be a success with plenty of members and prospective members on the green. How successful in attracting new members is still to be seen, but the atmosphere both on the green and in the clubhouse was pleasant and cordial.

31st May - Peter Tarbutt & Brian won their opening B&D Over 60's Pairs game very comfortably at home 31-7 after only 18 ends against a Thorneycroft pair.

28th May - Dave Sims won his County singles match 21-12. Well done Dave!

28th May - Sheila Crow, Norma & Linda won their County Triples in atrocious weather at Hook 21-17, before Norma dashed to Oakley to play for the WCH team!!

27th May - Norma & Linda won their latest County Pairs game at Pyestock 24-11 - again, well done.

25th May - Brian Craighill won his Whitchurch Over 60's Singles at Kingsclere 21-5 after only 12 ends.

20th May - the men won their Top Club game away against Oakley 3-2 and will play either Headley or St. Mary Bourne in the next round. This unexpected win was due to the performances of Paul Schofield in the 4 Wood Singles, Peter Tarbutt and John Blair in the Pairs and the Fours' team skipped by David Sims.

19th May-  Paul Schofield & Peter Tarbutt lost their County pairs match 21-22 on the last end on a very close measure. Also, on the same evening, our Ladies Fours team (Sheila, Norma, Wanda, & Linda) lost their County game by 2 shots after coming back from a large deficit earlier in the game. Hard luck to all of them.

17th May - we played a Friendly against Hook, but unfortunately they were only able to field 9 players. We had 17 players and so we had one triples rink comprised of only Alton players whilst the rest played against Hook, the result of which was 2 rinks to I and 69 shots to 41 in Alton's favour. The games were played beautiful weather and enjoyed by all and again it was pleasing to see such a large turnout by our members.

15th May - Linda won her first County Unbadged Singles game 21-16 against Lesley Taylor after leading 12-7 after 10 ends, but being pulled back to 16 all on the 19th end. Keep it up, Linda and god luck in the next round.

13th May - Norma Craighill & Linda Habbberfield comprehensively won their County Pairs game at Old Basing 21-4.

10th May - we travelled to Lee on the Solent to play a friendly game, and our hosts were extremely hospitable, apart from beating us by 113 to 81 shots.  The game was played in a wind gusting at 50mph diagonally across the green and we found it difficult to adjust to these conditions. Congratulations to our winning rink comprising Katherine Philipson, Peter Foulkes and Bob "Shorts" Beale. Unfortunately, the "Captain's Curse" struck again and his was the losing rink! It was pleasing that we were able to turn out 6 triples in a friendly for the first time in many years  and we had 3 members playing their first or first full friendly game, namely Michael Smith, Bernie Lowen & Sue McCrossan - thanks and congratulations.

9th May - Linda Habbberfield, our Ladies Singles winner in 2013 in her first year in the competition, was the Club's representative in the Champion of Champions competition at Bannister Park. Unfortunately, she lost in her first match, but gave a creditable performance, particularly as she is very new to bowling.

4th May - National Two Fours - our team played Liphook on Sunday,  but unfortunately lost 33-36. Alton started slowly and after 14 ends were 13 shots behind. Dave Sims' rink did particularly well, pulling back from 9-17 to lead 19-17 going into the last end, but dropped 2 on that end to finish with a creditable draw. P Tarbutt's rink were never in the lead being 8 behind at one stage and finished 3 behind.

Unfortunately, Painting day has had to be postponed for a while.
Don't forget - Painting days on the 4th and 5th of May - bring a paintbrush or roller and get stuck in.

Our second Friendly, against Farnham at Bear Lane, has been cancelled.

Our first Friendly, against Alton Social, was hit by the weather and only 8 ends could be played before Brian called the game off. This left us with more time for tea and a chat.

Opening Day went well - the weather was kind to us, ABC players were able to enjoy a roll-up with some prospective new members, enjoy the excellent refreshments and pay their subs.
